The financiers tasked with saving Scottish football champion Rangers from liquidation have assured fans this weekend's match against Kilmarnock will go ahead.

They reported making "very good progress" in rescuing Rangers, a day after the stricken club was forced to seek bankruptcy protection.

Rangers was forced into administration over tax debts of STG9 million ($A13 million) accrued in the nine months of Craig Whyte's ownership.

The administrators say "supporters can be reassured that Rangers will continue as a football club".

But the club has postponed its Hall of Fame dinner and awards ceremony that was due to take place on Sunday, saying it "was not considered appropriate" given the turmoil.
